You can elect to blacklist specific shipping methods to they are excluded when our system rate-shops shipping options for your orders. When a method is blacklisted, the system will automatically select the least-cost option that is not blacklisted.
This is useful when you want to prevent certain carriers or services from being used entirely.
How Blacklisting Works
- Blacklisting removes a shipping method from consideration during rate shopping.
- If multiple methods are available, the system will choose the lowest-cost eligible option that is not blacklisted.
- Blacklisting can be applied at either the carrier level or the service level.
Steps to Blacklist Shipping Methods
- Click the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the app.
2. Select Shipping Methods from the dropdown menu.
3. Scroll down to Blacklisted Carrier & Service Levels.
4. Make your selections using the checkboxes:
- Carriers
- Checking a box here will blacklist all services offered by that carrier.
- Services
- Checking a box here will blacklist only the specific service selected (e.g., USPS First Class, UPS, Ground).
5. Click Save to apply your changes.
⚠️ Important Disclaimer: Blacklisting & Label Purchase Attempts
Blacklisting cannot be used to try to force a label purchase.
Please note:
- Checking or unchecking backlist boxes does not trigger a label purchase.
- Blacklisting only controls which methods are eligible once the system attempts to buy a label.
Common Scenario We See
Clients Often:
- Check a box to blacklist a method
- Immediately uncheck it
- Expect that action to push the label through
This will not work.
Correct Process (Example: USPS + PO Boxes)
If a label fails due to a carrier constraint *Such as USPS delivery to a PO Box):
- Leave the shipping method enabled
- Allow the team/system to attempt the label purchase
- Once the attempts fails and the issue is identified:
- Adjust blacklist settings only if needed
- Then reattempt the label purchase
Turing blacklist options on and off before a label attempt will not resolve carrier restrictions and can delay fulfillment.
Best Practices
- Use blacklisting as a preventative control, not as a troubleshooting shortcut.
- Always allow the system or team to attempt the label purchase first.
- If a shipment continues to fail, contact the team so the root cause (carrier rules, address type, service availability) can be addressed properly.
