How to Create a Pack Out SOP for Branded Packaging

When utilizing branded packaging for Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) orders or kitting, it is crucial to provide a clear Pack Out Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). This SOP ensures that our warehouse team follows the correct steps to maintain brand consistency and order accuracy. if you are not using branded packaging, we will use our standard packaging available in the warehouse.
 

Why a Pack Out SOP is Important

• Ensures accuracy and consistency in packaging.
• Helps train our internal operations team on specific client requirements.
• Reduces errors and improves efficiency in fulfillment.

How to Structure Your Pack Out SOP

(For Branded packaging ONLY — We will use Kase Pack out SOPs for any non-branded packaging being used)

1. Packaging Details

List all required packaging materials, including boxes, inserts, dunnage, and any other components. If using branded packaging, provide specifications such as:

• Box type and dimensions
• Dunnage type (e.g., crinkle paper, air pillows, kraft paper)
• Inserts (e.g., marketing cards, product manuals, tissue paper)
• Any special branding elements (e.g., branded tape, stickers, custom wrapping)

Example:

• Branded Packaging: Custom mailer box (10x8x4in.) with brand logo
• Dunnage: Black crinkle paper
• Inserts: Thank you card with a discount code
• Sealing: Branded tape with logo placement on the top seam

2. Product Requirements

List all items included in the package, specifying how they should be arranged. Provide clear descriptions of:

• Product SKU#s
• Placement inside the box
• Layering (if applicable)

Example:

• Item 1: scented candles (SKU: CNDL-002) placed side by side
• Item 2: matches box (SKU: MTCH-001) placed on top of the candles
• Item 3: Brand insert card tucked into the side

3. Packaging Instructions

Provide step-by-step packaging instructions, including visuals if available.

Example:

1. Assemble the branded mailer box.
2. Place crinkle paper at the bottom.
3. Position candles side by side, ensuring labels face upwards.
4. Place matches box on top.
5. Insert thank you card along the side.
6. Add more crinkle paper to fill any empty space.
7. Seal the box with branded tape.
8. Attach the shipping label to the top center.
    
9. Shipping Label & Packing List Placement

Specify where to place the shipping label and packing list to ensure consistency.

Example:

• Shipping label: Centered on the top of the box.
• Packing List: Inside the box on top of the dunnage.

5. Visual Aids

Whenever possible, include images or diagrams to illustrate proper pack out methods. If images are not available, our warehouse team can capture photos during test orders, which can be added later.

For clients requesting kitting services, please provide a detailed kitting SOP that includes:

7. Seal the box and attach the appropriate shipping label
